If I ever meet you in your path,

Turn away, don't meet my eyes
dekh lu bhi agar tum hamein bhool se
Even if you look at me by mistake,
apni aankhon mein tum ashk lana nahi
Don't bring tears into my eyes.
dil se humko to tum kar chuke ho juda
You are already distant from my heart,
aankh se bhi girana nahi - 2
Don't let me fall with your eyes.
(tumne maangi dua humko miley har khushi
You prayed that I shall receive every happiness,
tum hi meri khushi phir kyun miley na hamein) - 2
But you are my happiness,
why then don't I get you?
tumne li hai kasam gham na karna kabhi
You made me promise that I shall not be sad,
tum sikhado zara muskurana hamein
Then please show me how to smile.
tumne keh toh diya yaad karna nahi
You asked me not to remember you,
khwaab mein tum bhi aana nahi - 4
Then please don't come into my dreams.
jaa rahe ho agar...
If you are leaving...

mein deewana.." in english n hindi"

(Dilruba maana hai kaatil teri adaa Sweetheart,
I admit that your style is a killer,
Laakhon hain aashiq tujhpe fida
Millions of lovers go crazy over you (will die for you),
Humko bhi tu aazmaana
Do give me a chance too.
Jaan-e-jaan ek baar meri baahon mein aa
Love of my life, come and embrace me just once,
Tujhko sikha doon hai pyaar kya
And I will teach you the meaning of love,
Aur kya hai dil ka lagaana
And the meaning of falling in love.
Main deewana hoon main deewana
I am crazy (over you),
Aise jaane na doonga jaana
I will not let you go easily, my love.
Youn na humse nazrein churaana
Don't try to look away from me,
Hoga humse hi dil lagaana) -2
For it is me you will fall in love with.
Dena, dena kisi na kisi ko hai
You have to give (your heart) to someone or another,
Mera saath de de tu
Why don't you give it to me,
Khona, khona kabhi na kabhi to hai
You have to lose it one day or another,
Yeh dil aaj kho de tu
Why don't you lose it today,
Itna sa bas mujhpe ehsaan kar de tu
Just do me this much favour,
Apni jawaani mere naam kar de tu
Give me your youth (Write my name on your youth)
Dena, dena kisi na kisi ko hai
You have to give (your heart) to someone or another,
Mera saath de de tu
Why don't you give it to me.
Yeh haseen pal, youn na khona
Don't lose these beautiful moments,
Door mujhse ab tu na hona
Don't go away from me,
Faasle aaja mita de, lag jaa galeCome,
let us erase these distances between us and embrace,
Mauka mile ya phir na mile
We may not be granted this opportunity again,
Yeh pal haseen na gawaana
Don't lose this wonderful moment
Main deewana hoon main deewana
I am crazy (over you),
Aise jaane na doonga jaana
I will not let you go easily, my love.
Youn na humse nazrein churaana
Don't try to look away from me,
Hoga humse hi dil lagaana) -2
For it is me you will fall in love with.
Aaja, aaja honthon se laga keCome,
let our lips touch,
In zulfon se kheloon main
Let me play with your hair,
Na jaa, na jaa jaana tarsa ke
Don't torment me by going away,
Aa baahon mein le loon mainCome,
let me take you in my arms,
Tere in aakhon se kaajal chura loon main
Let me steal your kohl from your eyes,
Gore badan pe sitaare saja doon main
Let me adorn your fair body with stars.
Aaja, aaja honthon se laga keCome,
let our lips touch,
In zulfon se kheloon main
Let me play with your hair,
Dhadkane ab badh rahi hain,
hadd se guzarne ko keh rahi hain
My heartbeat is racing,
it is telling me to go beyond limit
Bekhabar jaaoge bach ke humse kidher
Ignorant one, you can't escape me,
Paaoge humko jao jidher
You shall see me wherever you go,
Jo chaahe kar lo bahaana
Even if you wish to evade.
Main deewana hoon main deewana
Aise jaane na doonga jaana
Youn na humse nazrein churaana
Hoga humse hi dilMain deewana,
na nazrein chura naHaan main deewana,
jaane na doonga jaana
Main deewana hoon main deewana
Aise jaane na doonga jaana
Youn na humse nazrein churaana
Hoga humse hi dil lagaana

Bhangra to salsa

Bhangra to salsa
Mixing dances freely

My lightness-of-being is so much fun... You attract people when you smile. An Egyptian woman left the scent of her shoulderblades on my fingertips. We figured out the teacher is not Latina but Lebanese, and she kept staring at my partner trying to figure out her ethnicity. The desi woman, usually insecure, turned out a serious dancer, part of a bhangra troupe and sister of a friend.

We four took over a corner of the salsa floor, late, when not so many were there, and did bhangra in a circular rueda-style pattern, the East Asian guy, a good sport, asking, ‘So what are we dancing again?’ The Indians had arrived, we’d planted our flag firmly in the corner, and these girls were serious dancers.

You trust such people more when you connect instantly; I leaned back, way back, and she supported me, all five feet four of pint-sized her, though we’d just met—her sister is my buddy’s fiancee, the Punjabi connection, the bhangra connection, the dance connection, instant trust. The Egyptian danced all night with another Asian. Cultures mixed freely, I’m not Europeo... Arabic trance is stunning, Cheb Faudel did one with a salsa backbone and an Arabic heart, an odd song but it works. The Shakira-lookalike bar waitress smiled at me for the first time, there was a fabulous mambo show where half the troupe was white...

Salsa has, hands down, consistently, the most attractive women in the Bay Area. Not to mention that my office features burnt sienna walls and fresh cut flowers, and I eat walnut-raisin-chaat masala salads and chocolate-banana-coconut crepes every day. Life was so aseptic before Italy

What is bhangra dancing?

Bhangra is probably more instantly recognised by Western audiences as the style of Indian dance performed to"Chaiyya Chaiyya" from Bombay Dreams. Traditionally bhangra is a famous folk dance from the Punjab in North India. This dance is mainly performed at joyous occasions such as weddings and festivals

Bhangra Dancers & Dhol Drummers

Dynamite for any event; bhangra is great fun, passionate and energetic; the dancers are accompanied by a drum, which is known as a dhol which is a large two headed barrel shaped wooden drum played with 2 sticks - the dhol is amazing to experience when played live!

The dancers follow the beats of the drum, which gives the dancers a cue to change the step. This live element means all performances are different, and can cater for the different needs of the audience.

The dynamic performance from our male dance team includes acrobatic moves and even dancing with swords!!!Calmer Karma can provide the top Bhangra dancers in the UK for your party or corporate event - superbly choreographed and costumed and can guarantee that this will be a dynamic entertainment which will stay in your guests minds a long time after your event!

shaimaks n shaimak

Shiamak Davar is on an all-time high!

After winning the Star-Screen Award for Best Choreographer for Dhoom 2, he successfully launched the 2007 Shiamak Davar calendar. And now he is all set to produce a Hindi Play.Incidentally, his career also has its roots in theatrical plays. In 1982, Shiamak started off as a regular performer in a play called Evita. He also performed in the same play at Canada. Later, he also started doing the choreography for musical plays like My Fair Lady and Circus. But this is not the only reason Shiamak is thrilled to be a part of a play. The Hindi play which he is going to produce is an adaptation of the original English version. This English version was written by an ex-instructor and dancer of none other than SDIPA- Shiamak's dance academy! Shiamak has done many international shows and made India proud at numerous cultural events. Hopefully his Hindi play will also score just as well.

MIND L33t Matter

Choreographer Vaibhavi Merchant has become a star in her own right. By Claire Halliday.

"It was a big no-no for women in my family to take up a career in dance."

Vaibhavi Merchant, 29, draws deeply on her cigarette as she tells the tale of her cosseted upbringing in India, and how she, as the oldest child in a middle-class family in which her father has a thriving construction business and her mother is a housewife, broke the mould to dive into the world of choreography at the age of 17.

"I was a very protected child," Merchant says as she points a slender finger towards a shopfront just a few metres along the footpath. "Even if I had to walk from here to there I would have had to take a servant with me. Girls were looked after like that. Getting into the film industry and being a choreographer? I think going to the moon would have been far easier," she says.

Never mind that her grandfather, Hiralalji Merchant, was one of the founding fathers of choreography in the vibrant film industry that has come to be known as Bollywood.

"It was seen as OK for him to do, but not for the women in my family," she says. "Initially it was a very male-dominated profession. There are lots of female choreographers now. Now women have come to kick all those people's butts."

Merchant's own butt-kicking style seems to have paid off. At the age of 21, her work as a choreographer scored her the Indian version of the Oscar when she took home a National Award for her first Bollywood film.

Now, the diva of dance is a star in an industry worth billions of dollars, travelling the world at a frantic pace to keep up with the Bollywood film industry that pumps out films more regularly than most people brush their teeth.

"I am involved in maybe three films a month," Merchant says. "I have done maybe 100."

And in between all those movie shoots, Merchant has had a stage production to worry about. Technically, with Barbados-born writer and director Toby Gough at the helm, it's not really Merchant's gig, but, given that the story charts her family's tale through the colourful history of Bollywood, and the fact that Merchant has a reputation as a dragon lady with a perfectionist streak that human foibles cannot possibly mar, her presence in Australia - fresh off the plane from "Film City", Mumbai - is hardly surprising.

For the past week, her younger sister and assistant choreographer, Shruti, has been guiding the troupe of dancers through their high-energy paces.

"Now I am here to make sure everything is OK for the opening night," she says. "That's what I like doing."

The reason she is chosen as the choreographer for so many productions, she says, is because of this reputation.

"I am very organised," Merchant says. "I'm on a roll now in my career. People in India come and see movies because of the choreographer. They come and see them because of me."

The Merchants of Bollywood opens at Her Majesty's Theatre, city, tonight, and runs until October 30. Tickets: $54.90- $89.90. Tel: 132 849.

Ganesh Hegde, the young choreographer,
he is an extravagant

who has been known for some 'flashy choreography for songs like 'Khallas' [Company], 'It’s magic [Koi Mil Gaya], 'Jaan mein Dum' [Dum], 'Kabhi Nahin' [Tera Chehra] & 'Main Deewana' [G] amongst many others has now made none other than Shahrukh Khan dance to his moves yet again after an extravagant 'Main Hoon Don' [Don]. He does this for the promotional music video of KBC and results are there for everyone to be seen. The song 'Ek Sawaal Ka Sawaal Hai' is en route to be a rage in days to come and a large part of credit for that must go to Ganesh Hegde whose choreography stamp is pretty much evident in each and every single frame of the video. What makes Hegde's songs different is the fact that they are not just an array of dance moves but also boast of great sets, marvelous costumes, flashy lighting and some cool camera angles, all of which combine together to make video viewing a unique affair. No wonder, SRK is shown grinning from ear to ear as he thoroughly enjoys himself while dancing away to glory in this hip-hop meets rap'n'reggae number

PERFORMANCE TIPS

Right Place, Right Time
Some of the best performers in Bollywood have practised classical Indian dance, according to Piali Ray – dancer, choreographer and director of SAMPAD South Asian Arts. Dawinder Bansal talks to Piali and finds out the route to becoming a choreographer.
Describe a a choreographer's job.
A choreographer's job is to make a dance sequence look good. A choreographer must understand how to use space, light, design and have a depth of knowledge about the subject matter, otherwise a routine can look shallow. They need to be able to recognise technique in other dancers, spot strengths and weaknesses therefore using appropriate movements.
In Indian dancing, it's important to present emotion in a piece of work, because that's what touches the audience. Have you had any experience of choreographing Bollywood-style dancing?
I've choreographed a huge range of productions where I've used a Bollywood style of dancing.
I don't think Bollywood is a particular genre of dance, it's just dancing that goes with music from films and is something that's appropriate to screen.
It's very lavish and uses hundreds of dancers to add to the glamour of Bollywood. What's the route you've taken in becoming a choreographer? I've been a classical Indian dancer for years and as time went on, I wanted to create so decided to become a choreographer.
It takes time to become a good choreographer, so you'll start off with small projects and from that you will develop the confidence to create bigger and bolder pieces of work.
Each time I choreograph a routine, I push myself beyond the boundaries. What changes have you noticed in Bollywood over the last 25 years?
A number of things have improved and added to the slickness of the films. Technology, acting ability, and dancing has vastly improved.
Now all the dancers are professionally trained which is visible in their technique. What makes Bollywood-choreographed routines so impressive? A lot of the dance sequences look so impressive because of the sheer number of dancers used.
So if you have a hundred hands moving in the same direction, and you know how to use a camera angle, then that can look amazing.
It's also the glamorous consumes, colour and extravagant set.
What do you need to consider when you're choreographing a routine?
Music, words, and use of light and space
Creativity and originality – very important in good choreography.
Look at examples of innovation in Bollywood – choreographers such as Saroj Khan and Farah Khan. They always use something new in their routines, there's always a surprise element and that's what identifies them as being unique. How would you describe a good and bad choreographer? There is predictable choreography, and innovative choreography. A lesser choreographer is likely to use movements that have already been done. A good choreographer will bring the music to life, add a dimension to the character and know how to use performers in the best possible way. Most actresses are good movers, and know how to work to the camera. However, not all actors are good dancers, so a chorographer should give them subtle moves, which are not too demanding on posture. They still make them look good, and know how to make the best out of someone's capabilities. Are you able to spot the classical influence in it? Yes absolutely. Some of the most outstanding dancers such as Sri Devi, Hema Malini and Madhuri Dixit have done years of classical dancing. They may not have danced classically in the movie, but they know how to dance well. You don't just start dancing in a Bollywood film, without any knowledge about your physique, muscle control, posture and to how you present your body. All of that, with the total sharpness of movement comes from learning technique, which classical dance provides. What advice would you give to someone who wants to get into choreography? Dancing is just like
learning a language. First you need to learn the alphabet, learn verbs, and then you make sentences and start writing essays. Depending on how good you are, you begin writing poetry, stories and songs etc. My personal belief is that, you can't teach choreography. A choreographer is something that you become, over time.
Learn how to dance and understand what it is – I don't know any choreographers who have not been dancers in their career
Learn more than one style of dancing
Analyse dance routines, see what look goods and what doesn't
See other people's work and experience what's out there
Aim to be individualistic by trying out your own ideas
Soak yourself in music, visual arts, literature – understanding the whole ecology of art, makes a good artist.
Lastly, you don't become a good choreographer overnight. Anyone who wants to get into it, should continuously learn and develop new ideas and techniques, and there has to be a degree of understanding and experience to be recognised as unique.
